Grape Nebbiolo

Vineyards From microplots of Nebbiolo in the heart of “Ornato” appellation in Serralunga d’Alba, the first village in the Barolo region where the Pio Family started to acquire vineyards.
Ornato is a large amphitheater with complete south exposure, from early morning to late afternoon.

Vinification Fermentation and long maceration on the skins in stainless steel tanks. Long ageing in big barrels of French and Eastern Europe oak for nearly 24 months and for a small amount in French oak barriques. Long bottle ageing before release to increase drinkability.

Notes
The very first single-vineyard wine produced by Pio Family, released for the first time with 1985 vintage. The particular exposure, the limestone and clay soil composition, nearly 400 meters altitude and the very dry and warm microclimate create a very powerful and full-bodied Barolo, with intense red fruit aromas and strong tannins, especially when young.
Extremely long ageing potential.
Produced in small quantities every year, since 1985.
